The Church and the Armor Of the Messiah

Our brother Chris Carmichael has written an excellent article based on some of the themes we have seen over the years at Heritage and the desire that we have been burdened with especially of late.  Please read Are We Still the Body of Christ Without the Full Armor of God? at the Sacred Sandwich website.

May the reading of his article compel us all to seek for the Kingdom of Heaven!

Expressions – Emerald Lake Photo

Emerald Lake Area in June 2008

Jaime and I made this hike one beautiful day last June.  Usually, this is a high-traffic area in Rocky Mountain National Park during the later summer months, but were some of the few that made it up that day over the snowpack.  Emerald Lake is hidden just beyond the trees and under ice and snow.  Indeed the creation declares the glory of God!

Olney Hymns

I’ve often said that I wish sanctification included vocal redemption as well.  Alas, I am proof that it does not.  However, just because I can’t carry a tune doesn’t mean that I don’t love music that honors and glorifies the Lord Jesus.  One of my favorite places to go and find wonderful verse is The Olney Hymn Collection at

These hymns were written by John Newton and William Cowper in the 18th Century.  They are expressions of Christian devotion and service, and demonstrate the beauty when we seek to build up the Body of Christ by singing Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.

Here’s a text written out of a study from Ezekiel.  It is very fitting for our last few studies.

The Lord proclaims his grace abroad!
Behold, I change your hearts of stone;
Each shall renounce his idol god,
And serve, henceforth, the LORD alone.

My grace, a flowing stream, proceeds
To wash your filthiness away;
Ye shall abhor your former deeds,
And learn my statutes to obey.

My truth the great design insures,
I give myself away to you;
You shall be mine, I will be yours,
Your GOD unalterably true.

Yet not unsought, or unimplored,
The plenteous grace shall I confer;
No—your whole hearts shall seek the Lord,
I’ll put a praying spirit there.

From the first breath of life divine,
Down to the last expiring hour;
The gracious work shall all be mine,
Begun and ended in my pow’r.

Expressions: Ephesians 5:25-27

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.”

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
